Phyllis Coniglio
Phyllis Coniglio, member of Long Island Branch, died on May 8, 2024. She will be remembered by her friends and family for her generous nature and amazing talent. She was an abstract artist whose extraordinary acrylic paintings won numerous awards and recognition.
Coniglio was a member of the Suburban Art League, the Independent Art Society. As an NLAPW member, she served as branch membership chair for many years.
In her acrylic paintings, she explored the connection between the physical and spiritual world. Her message in her work was, “We are all united together through beauty and in beauty is spirituality that transcends all time.”
Carol Mann
1936-2024
Carol Stanfield-Manne was a letters member of the Palm Springs Branch for nearly two decades. In her 88 years, she accomplished many creative endeavors in music, theater, and writing. For many years, she taught English, debate, and drama in the California public school system.
After retiring from teaching, she wrote, under the name of Carol Mann, short stories, personal essays, and poetry for literary journals and magazines. Her most recent book, Creek Songs, Collected Short Stories, was both a National Indie Excellence Award and an International Book Awards Finalist. In addition, she wrote a blog called “Written Beneath the Palms” about writing, books, and life.
She was also a member of the Palm Springs Writers Guild, the Muses & Patronesses Circle of the McCallum Theater, and the Literary Society of the Desert. She regularly attended the annual Rancho Mirage Writers Festival. Writing, film, theater, and books were lifelong pursuits.
