A Message of Love
By Dorothy Atkins, Santa Clara County Branch
Art was my refuge! Thus began a lifelong commitment to change the narrative. During the social unrest and pandemic, like others, I felt such a sense of loss. It was necessary to navigate these events in order to keep my heart from turning to stone. Every day for the past three years, I have dragged my paints out and painted my way through sadness. Forming a relationship with each image gave me a sense of hope and a deep caring for the world.
As a storyteller, colors, expressions, simplicity, softness, and strength took the place of isolation and fears. I used shapes and color to express my feelings of hope. Without uttering a word, I let my art tell a story and left it to the viewers to complete their own version.
Subsequently, my “One Love” series began. My images have made their way around the globe with the simple message: “One Love.”
