After 60 years of downhill skiing, I decided to give up a sport that I dearly loved. Luckily for me, those whom I skied with are decades younger than I am. They have honored the promise I made them make: Send me pictures from the mountains so I can paint them!

One of my ski buddies took on the Yearly Vertical Ski Challenge that takes place in the Northeast. He skied over 5 million vertical feet in one season in honor of a friend who passed away from cancer. What a feat.

A part of me, in spirit at least, will always admire his hard-earned success as I view “Clouds Over Killington” (Vermont). “Clouds Over Killington” (cover) and “Snow Whites,” another painting, are from him. “Snow Whites” reminds me of the utter silence one experiences after the snow has fallen. My friend Robin sent me the idea for “Highest” (Mount Mansfield, Vermont). I can almost feel how cold it was that day
