    Very fine tanka, Patricia. It’s a really nice and disciplined form. You bring the palm shadows and the ground to life, and “summer-dried souls” concludes it perfectly.

    Thank you! This poem is based on a 5-line Japanese form called a tanka. The lines are 5 syllables, then 7, 5, 7 and 7.. I altered the form a little, to 5, 7, 7, 5, 5. I am glad you enjoyed reading it.
