Featured Poem: Reflections

By Janet Fagal
Central New York Branch

In the mirror
I call out to her.
Her reflection, so youthful.
Eager, hopeful.
I call to her, warn her.
It goes by so fast.
I whisper.
Stick your toes in the water!
Do it now.
Jump in with every part of you!
Hurry. Swim hungrily,
voraciously.
Into the deep.

Oh, this really resonates with me, Janet – effectively written brief call to live as deeply and well as we can, urges us to heed it. Beginning with the mirror and ending with the plunge – really nice.

Thank you, Barbara. Hindsight and all of that. I keep trying to make myself do all that I want to in my dotage and be happy about my earlier choices, yet share some of “my” food for thought or wisdom……but we all do it our own way!!! And I surely wish I had been braver.

I love your poem. I feel the movement of the water and the hope that the poem instills which is sad but uplifting.
    Thank you,,
    Nancy

Thank you, Nancy. It is definitely a time to ponder and wonder. I try not to focus on regret but gratitude, yet, I wanted to reach back in time and tell myself what I could have or should have thought about. We all take that road less traveled once in a while……maybe therein lies some of what we wonder about. I appreciate hearing your thoughts. And I am glad you see that hope!!

That is a great thing to think about…..feeling good about all you have experienced. I think I would maybe have done some things differently but I am always up for new things, new experiences and working hard to help others. So even when I reflect I do wish I had been braver at times. I was shy for sure. And aging, well it is better than the alternative and I do consider myself very lucky. Thanks for commenting, Judith.

Thanks, Janet. Love the idea and your dear self reflected there.
I will go back and re-read – love how you help us think again.
