Featured Poem: Poetry is Medicinal

By Nancy Haskett

(a trimeric)

Write a sonnet!

You will forget your ailments

as you struggle to rhyme,

while maintaining the prescribed meter.

You will forget your ailments,

focused on using metaphors while still making sense,

putting words into logical syntax.

As you struggle to rhyme,

alternating lines in each quatrain,

attempting to tell a story with a twist

while maintaining the prescribed meter,

you will feel your heartbeat slowing

in iambic pentameter.

There IS an altered physicality when we write. For me, it’s a respite from this noisy world. Nancy reminds us of the relief that awaits us.
