Tall and slender
the sea oats
bow to one another
without breaking.
Something in their sandy
shoes allows them to
tilt from their toes,
lean West with the wind
at sunrise, and stand
straight again at vespers.
Like graceful old ladies
with a crown of seeds
dry at summer’s end,
they drop each kernel
for tomorrow’s purpose –
binding the sand
holding the dunes
saving the shore.
The strength, tenacity, grace and divine purpose of sea oats are beautifully described in this poem. Bravo, Fern!
Bravo. Very true, lovely poem! I enjoyed reading over and over.

It’s a WONDERFUL poem, lovely images, creative metaphors…everything I wish for! I close with a childhood expression…”Good on you!!”, a compliment we all wished to hear! I look forward to some more!
such a beautiful poem, so visual, so meaningful and very touching.
Nice, enjoyed the flow
I love the images you create, a simple plant with a worthwhile purpose. Kudos
Great poem. I had lived near Tampa, Florida before I moved to Texas. Loved the water and miss it along with the sea oats and sea grapes . 🍇 keep writing 🤗🙏🌹
So elegant. Gives such a wonderful vision of such an everyday occurrence. Lovely poem.
Beautiful poem – quite visual.
The loveliest things are sometimes said with simplicity.
