“The Warrior in Red” by Azar Vaghefi, Diablo-Alameda Branch (California)
Ceramic, 8-inch high
Artist’s Statement:
I was inspired by the Maasai tribe, who live in northern, central, and southern Kenya and northern Tanzania. They use red in most of their outfits. “The Warrior in Red“ is highfire “Black Mountain” clay, decorated and carved using underglaze and carving tools. This sculpture won the second prize in the Alameda County Fair show in 2022.
A very fine piece, beautifully detailed.
The eyes have it, so sensitive. Love the colors and detail.
Striking!
