I’ve been wondering
Why certain people
Appear in my life.
Especially the annoying ones.
It seems interesting and ironic
Because I’m beginning to understand
It must be a blessing;
That what needs to change in my life
Has attracted someone in the world
To stir up my pot of selfish wants.
The meaning of my irritation?
For that annoying one to stop?
To make my world pleasant
So then I’m in control?
But if so-and-so
Has my same wants
There is discord.
Interaction then
Becomes the world’s enemy,
Therefore my particular journey here
Must be to change myself,
Not my neighbor;
To be in the world but not of it,
To understand my selfish wants
That prevent peace and harmony.
Elvira, this poem is indeed thought-provoking, gives me much to think about.
I agree we often see ourselves in others although we don’t always realize it. Well done!
How interesting!!!
All I can think of is “looking in the mirror” when we have discord – what is it about that other person’s behavior that resonates with our own insecurities and wants?
Thank you for sending this on!
Ah yes, Elvira. I can’t speak for others, but I recognize these thoughts, feelings, and reactions. Beautifully written and thought provoking. Thank you for sharing. God Bless!
