A Message from Claire Massey, NLAPW Poetry Editor
April is the month to celebrate the power and potential of poetry to rock our world! Poems can widen eyes; broaden minds; calm the heart or speed the pulse; retrieve a memory; heal a hurt; freeze-frame a moment of beauty or insight, loss, or choice — all while engaging the ear with musical language, masterfully arranged.
I urge you to discover new poems from the current and past United States Poets Laureate (Ada Limón, Billy Collins, Joy Harjo, Ted Kooser, Rita Dove, to name a few) and to reread personal favorites you may have clipped from a magazine years ago, secreted in a trunk or bookmarked in a classic anthology.
If the muses of poetry grace you with their presence, please consider sharing your own work of art with Pen Women sisters. (See guidelines for submissions on the poetry page of the spring issue of The Pen Woman magazine.)
Thank you for regularly visiting our poetry blog and for supporting our talented poets with thoughtful and perceptive comments.
Happy National Poetry Month!
THIS IS AMAZING. POETS ARE THE REAL DEAL. POETS SEE THE WORLD IN SO MANY WAYS. I LOVE READING IT AND WRITING THEM. I HAVE ALL OF MY LIFE AND NLAPW IS THE PLACE AMAZEMENTS NEVER CEASE. THANK YOU SO MUCH.
If this eloquent message doesn’t inspire you to write, I don’t know what will! I hope Pen Women will send in some excellent new work for the Featured Poem or the magazine.
Thank you, Claire, for this encouragement and reminder!
