Like a dancer beginning the dance
lightly on your ballet slippers you
float, swoop, glide on your magic carpet
across lines and white spaces.
Like last week’s windy rain
you drip, pound, thunder behind my ears
drowning out any thought I had
to vacuum, cook, exercise.
Like a wagon traversing rocky dirt
you bump me up and down:
Pay attention! I won’t let you rest!
I will pummel you into submission!
Courage! Pick up the pen.
Persist! No more avoiding.
Observe! No easy way out.
Reflect! You must climb inside.
A perfect description of the poet’s muse, prompting her to action, broaching no excuse!
