She emerges
from the rehab center
like a wounded bird
let loose into the sky
after being
nursed back to health.
Hesitant, unsure,
wary, anxious
heart beating erratically,
pulsating.
Met by the sunlight.
she shields her eyes,
lowers her gaze
to the terrain below.
She straightens her back,
takes a deep breath
steps forward
boldly,
into her new life of
sobriety.
A poem about a brave soul and a positive person. So glad to read a poem like this!
Thank you
How difficult that first step for the narrator, or first flight for the wounded bird.
A brave poem about bravery.

Powerful
A surprise at the end for me. Rooted for her all along the way but was imagining knee replacement work or other reasons. Yes, to sobriety which is never easy. You captured it so well.
Thanks for sharing this daunting and courageous ‘step.’ Even the lines of the poem mimic steps, large and small.
Great imagery!
