As tall as my viburnum bush
Stone girl stands
Empty water well at her side.
She waits.
Cement bucket at her bare feet.
Wearing maid’s cap and apron,
She stands daily.
Her duty
To enhance the scene.
Never moving
looking for water
She becomes
No longer a fountain
spilling water
but an ornament
catching today’s rain water.
Metaphorically, I hope Water Girls bucket runneth over to fully enhance life while in the garden. Thanks for sharing your poem Margaret.
This poem brings to mind a lovely garden scene. And perhaps the hope that “catching today’s rain” will prove prophetic for our drought-stricken areas. Will the stone girl’s bucket fill?
Lovely poem about water, an element that is so vital to us and all of nature, and the humble vessel that bears it. Thank you!
Beautiful poem. I can see her standing there.
Love this poem! I can see the image! Unique topic and well described in just a few words!
