“All’s fair,” they say, “in love and war,”
Thus our mottos were the same,
He playing chess, a game of war
While I played the other game.
My playing skill gained his respect
Admiration would have to wait
But that would come, in fact it did,
With his next move, “Check Mate.”
He’ll never know how good I was
And I hope never knows how sly.
He won the game as I had planned
But I won a wonderful guy.
Love The Poem! It is just like you – very likable!
This clever, light-hearted poem “sports” a perfect title.

I had to chuckle. I beat my husband-to-be at a croquet game. He asked me out on our first date anyway! Thanks for bringing up an old memory!
Love it!
This poem is very heart-warming.
